The News

Night Shift announced the launch of Boston Tea Party, an RTD hard tea made with vodka, on May 13, 2026. The product is lightly sweetened, at 4.5% ABV, gluten-free, and features peach, lemon, raspberry, and mango flavors. It will be available in 6-packs and 12-packs starting in early May across Night Shift's distribution channels in Massachusetts.

On the back‑bar, a new RT D is judged by flavor and shelf economics. Night Shift’s Boston Tea Party—an 4.5 % ABV vodka‑based hard tea—rolled onto Massachusetts shelves in May, proving that the brand is positioning itself inside a crowded but fast‑growing spirits‑RTD niche.

The launch price of $11.99 for six cans and $19.99 for twelve places Boston Tea Party below the implied cost of competitors like Surfside, whose four‑pack retailing at about $11 equates to roughly $33 per 12‑can set. That gap signals Night Shift is targeting volume through value, leaning on local brand equity and a lower‑cost vodka base instead of a malt‑derived flavor profile that dominates the category.

The RT D market’s share of total sales grew from 8 % in 2021 to 16 % in 2023, giving Night Shift an expanding niche. Yet that growth has drawn heavyweight entrants—Anheuser‑Busch’s Skimmers and Boston Beer’s Sun Cruiser—all launched after Night Shift entered the space. The result is a category that offers upside but also demands differentiation beyond a generic “vodka + tea” premise.

Night Shift’s product line—peach, lemon, raspberry, mango—mirrors rivals’ flavor‑mix strategy while adding gluten‑free and 100‑calorie badges. For bars serving RTDs on tap or pre‑poured, the low‑proof angle may translate to lower pour costs and a healthier‑image hook for health‑conscious patrons.

The 4.5 % ABV aligns with the regulatory sweet spot for many states’ spirits‑based RTD approvals, meaning distributors can route Boston Tea Party through standard channels without the licensing headaches that high‑proof or non‑standard formulations trigger.

For on‑premise operators, Boston Tea Party is a “value premium” entry: it’s cheaper than many comparable RTDs, offers a vodka base that may appeal to craft drinkers wary of malt‑derived drinks, and carries a local brand story that can be highlighted in taproom marketing. Distributors looking to fill a gap in the low‑proof RTD lane should note Night Shift’s current retail footprint is limited to Massachusetts; until a wider three‑tier agreement is announced, stocking this SKU outside that corridor would not align with the brand’s stated distribution strategy.

The trade takeaway is simple: evaluate Boston Tea Party as a cost‑effective, low‑calorie RTD that can be marketed as a “home‑grown” alternative. That positioning may resonate with both casual consumers and craft‑drink enthusiasts seeking something fresh yet familiar.

Original Press Release

BOSTON (May 13, 2026) - Night Shift announces the launch of its newest ready-to-drink (RTD) line, Boston Tea Party. Boston Tea Party is an easy-drinking, vodka-based, lightly sweetened hard tea inspired by Boston’s rebellious spirit and love for any reason to celebrate.

Night Shift brewed Boston Tea Party for the ones who go against the grain—who will raise a can and start their own party. Night Shift Brewing’s Boston Tea Party capitalizes on the growing hard tea trend while establishing a premium position with its vodka base, instead of malt. At 4.5% ABV, Boston Tea Party is lightly carbonated, gluten-free, and naturally full-flavored in peach, lemon, raspberry, and mango. Individual flavors in 6-packs and variety 12-packs are available. Boston Tea Party is brewed, distilled, and packaged locally in Massachusetts.

“We saw there was a gap in the market for hard tea that actually tastes like tea. So we are redefining hard tea for today’s drinker, offering a premium vodka-based alternative that is true to our local roots,” said Jack Hendler, Chief Quality Officer of Night Shift. “Boston Tea Party pays homage to the infamous historical event where Boston settlers famously rebelled. That legendary rebellion is still relevant for consumers today, especially those who are not afraid to be completely who they are as a resident of Boston and Massachusetts.”

Boston Tea Party will be available starting in early May across all Night Shift distribution channels, including retail locations and the Night Shift Everett Taproom and Lovejoy Wharf location.

The SRP is $11.99 for a 6-pack of 12 oz. cans and $19.99 for a 12-pack of 12 oz. cans.
