The News

Jeppson’s Malört announced an event on August 30 to attempt the world record for the largest mass of people taking a shot of Malört at the same time. The event will take place at Recess in Chicago from 5pm to 9pm, with the official attempt scheduled for 7:30pm. A portion of proceeds will benefit Ravenswood Community Services. Tickets are $10 and include one shot of Malört for the world record attempt, with non-drinkers allowed to spectate.

Malört, a niche bittersweet liqueur from CH Distillery in Chicago, is staging a high‑visibility event that could reshape how small brands use experiential marketing to build community goodwill.

On Aug. 30 2026, at Recess (838 W. Kinzie St.), Malört will attempt the world record for the largest number of people taking a shot simultaneously. Tickets cost $10 each and include a matching $10 donation to Ravenswood Community Services; the event is co‑organized by Everleigh Entertainment.

In 2024, U.S. spirits sales totaled roughly $109.8 billion with a 2.6% year‑over‑year increase (IWSR). Bittersweet liqueurs—of which Malört is a leading example—represent about 3.5% of that total, or roughly $3.8 billion in U.S. sales (Statista).

For on‑premise operators and distributors, the event demonstrates how a niche brand can generate foot traffic and charitable goodwill without large inventory pushes. Bars could promote the Recess event as a limited‑time opportunity to offer Malört shots while supporting a local cause, creating an experiential hook that may boost patron engagement.

The record attempt underscores the potential of small‑scale experiential campaigns to drive brand visibility and community partnership without heavy shelf allocation.

“Malört World Record: Bad Decision for a Good Cause” to Benefit Ravenswood Community Services

(CHICAGO) — Chicago’s most legendary spirit is known for making a scene. Now, they’re attempting to make history and give back to the city that made it legendary along the way.

On Sunday, August 30, Jeppson’s Malört will host “Malört World Record: Bad Decision for a Good Cause,” an attempt to set the world record for the largest mass of people taking a shot of Malört at the same time. The event will take place at Recess, 838 W. Kinzie St., from 5pm to 9pm, with the official world record attempt scheduled for 7:30pm.

A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit Ravenswood Community Services, a Chicago nonprofit dedicated to providing food, housing, and supportive services to neighbors facing hunger and homelessness.

Tickets are on sale now. Tickets are $10, and Malört will match each ticket with a $10 donation to Ravenswood Community Services through Malört’s Charitable Giving initiative. Tickets include one shot of Malört for the world record attempt, but non-drinkers are also welcome to purchase a ticket to spectate. Ticket upgrades—including shot glasses and t-shirts—are available. Space is limited.

Built on hard work, integrity, and what the brand calls “bitter honesty you can taste,” Malört says the event reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting the communities that shaped it. Since its founding, CH Distillery, the owner and producer of Malört, has donated more than $500,000 in cash, goods, and services to charitable causes throughout both Chicago and the country.

“Malört brings people together for the shared experience of a questionable choice,” said Tremaine Atkinson, CEO of CH Distillery. “This event is the perfect way to gather and give back to a great cause while we’re at it. We’re going to attempt something patently ridiculous and do some serious good for Chicago in the process.”

The event is expected to draw hospitality industry veterans, longtime Malört loyalists, bold first-timers, and spectators eager to witness a historic moment in Chicago drinking history.

Malört and Everleigh Entertainment, who are co-organizing the event, will announce the official host and additional programming in the coming weeks, with plans for an over-the-top celebration of Chicago’s most polarizing spirit. Attendees can expect live entertainment, giveaways, food specials, and a few painfully memorable surprises worthy of a Malört world record attempt.

“Chicago knows how to throw a party with personality, and nothing says personality quite like Malört,” said Franky Everleigh of Everleigh Entertainment. “This is going to be one of the most unforgettable moments of the year.”

Fans are encouraged to secure tickets early, as capacity is limited and demand is expected to be high following future event announcements.
